I have no words. I just wanted to jot my initial reaction down quick before I check my flist and other people's reactions inevitably harsh my squee, but THAT WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME. Seriously, the best episode of the season so far, and I think it holds up well to the classics of the other seasons, as well.
Still prefer Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer, but Jared pulled it off pretty well, I thought! :DD And DEEEEN. SO AWESOME. And I really...ack, my feelings about future!Cas are so complicated. I mean, Misha did so well, but future!Cas was a pretty miserable creature. On the other hand, that he turns out that way after falling to mortality works pretty damn well for me, as a whole, and OMG when we finally saw present!Cas again, all unruffled and coat-wearing and STILL ANGELIC \o/ it just made me appreciate him so much more, y'know? So, yeah, generally awesome, although I wish that there had been a few guys in hippie!Castiel's orgy. >_> Because seriously, why would an ex-angel care about gender at all?
And I thought this episode really handled the getting-the-brothers-back-together issue really well. The exchange between Sam and Dean at the beginning was so heartfelt and believable that it hurt, but the turn-around at the end was perfectly genuine and earned, too, and I'm glad they found a way to make it satisfying and not a cop-out that they're BOTH ready to hunt together again.
More coherent thoughts later, maybe.
